These dainty cookies are perfect for Christmas! πŸŽ…

I chose to create a bauble shape with a star to signify the two important decorations I put on my Christmas tree. πŸŽ„

Ingredients

1/4 cup butter (at room temperature)
1/2 cup icing sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla essence
3/4 cup plain flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Milk to combine the dough

Method

πŸ₯£ In a bowl whisk the butter and sugar until it is combined.

πŸ₯„ Add the vanilla essence and mix.

πŸ₯£ Sieve the flour and baking powder into a separate container.

πŸ₯£ Add the flour in small portions into the butter and sugar mixture, folding it in gently.

πŸ₯£ Bring the dough together.

* Do not knead it.

It should be crumbly at this stage.

πŸ₯ Now divide the crumbly dough into two portions with a ratio of 2:1.

πŸ₯ Sprinkle some milk to combine the larger portion of the dough.

πŸ₯ Add red food colour to the smaller portion and sprinkle some milk to combine the dough into a ball. Cover and keep it aside.

πŸ₯ Roll out the red dough to a quarter inch thickness and cut out stars 🌟 using a cookie cutter.

⭐ Using a pastry brush apply some milk on each star, joining them to firm a β€˜log of stars'

⭐ Carefully cover this with cling film and refrigerate for 1 hour.

πŸ₯ Remove from the fridge after 1 hour. From the white dough create rolls that are the same length as your star roll. Attach these to each side of the star roll.

πŸ₯ Roll out the remaining white dough and cut in a rectangular shape, the length of which should be the same as your star roll and width should be enough to wrap round the star roll.

πŸ₯ Wrap the rectangular dough round the star roll. From the remaining white dough, create one more long roll that will form the top of the bauble shape. Attach this to the top of your roll. Gently cover the complete roll in cling film and refrigerate for 2 hours.

  • Preheat your oven at 160 degrees Celsius for 10 minutes.

πŸ₯ After 2 hours remove the roll from the fridge and using a sharp knife, slice it into quarter inch cookies. Place these on a baking tray and bake for 15 minutesΒ , or until the sides are a golden colour.

πŸ₯ Cool the cookies on a rack and store them in an airtight container.

β˜• Enjoy these with a nice cup of coffee or leave them out for Santa on Christmas eve. πŸŽ…
